  • Character Skill vs. Reward

    clearcut wrote: »
Skill in my case was how easy the character is to use as well as the amount of effort it takes to do certain amount of damage (low/medium/high reward) in an average raid (Neamhain, S3). So a character like Scythe Evie is easy to use, fairly straightforward and doesn't require much effort to do dps (generally medium) in an average raid. While a character like SS Arisha requires more understanding, and effort but also deals more dps (generally high) in an average raid. Effort again is ambiguous but I'm not really sure how else to explain it besides my own experiences.

The problem is that the relationship between ease of use and reward varies depending on skill floors and ceilings.

Assuming we use League's definition wherein skill floor is equivalent to barrier to entry, a character with a low skill floor (easy to use) but high skill ceiling (greater required effort to hit maximum potential) will see wildly differing levels of reward depending on the individual piloting that character. On the flipside, a character with a very narrow margin between its skill floor and ceiling will see a much more constant level of reward irrespective of the pilot, so long as they understand the basics.

This is why I suggested earlier in the thread that it's better to look at characters by giving all of them optimal gearing layouts (so that characters which rely heavily on crit or attack speed aren't artificially gimped) and then giving those characters to a set of players with a wide range of skill and experience. We could then see the impact of skill floors and ceilings on reward in terms of damage done, damage taken, uptime, and whatever other factors you'd like to include.

In other words, I don't think a generic "skill" rating is really an adequate way to judge Vindi's characters and any average you try to hit is almost certainly bound to be inaccurate. It really should be broken down by floors and ceilings, and probably bosses on top of that.

  • Vindictus 2018 Impressions Review

MMO reviews are very different to movie reviews, or reviews of video games that can be finished in 20-30 hours. MMOs often take hundreds to fully experience everything, and by that logic, wouldn't really ever be possible to fully rate

I don't disagree. However, and I've said this before, it doesn't take much to provide some supplemental information in order to flesh out your material. Utilize clips from other videos to show off some late game content, show examples of other characters in their prime, show what the game feels like once you get into the heart of it - IMO all of that is important for a player to craft a proper impression of the game. There's no shame in leveraging somebody else's content to create a better end result. I'm sure people would gladly give you permission.

What you did is the equivalent of creating a World of Warcraft impressions video in 2018 without ever having left Durotar. Like... why? Who's going to get anything out of that? Literally nobody.

That's a good way to admit you're wrong and don't know what the hell you're talking about, with your "I believe" this and that - you come to this thread and make a long winded post when you're only speculating at that and are unsure of yourself and your claims then you complain when someone responds with a long post like you just made yourself?!

So that makes you a hypocrite.

Typical shameless despicable hypocritical troll filth infesting the Vindictus forums.

For the record, my complaint wasn't that your post was long-winded (I don't mind long-winded posts as a general rule) - but rather that your post was long-winded bullshit, with emphasis on bullshit. :^)

Also, in reference to the "I believe" comment - I said "I believe" because my characters are either well past or well before that point, so I don't have an exact reference off the top of my head. It's what you might call inductive estimation.

    Lastly -

Translation: I'm too stupid to read more than one sentence in a post and I don't belong in threads where intelligent conversation and debates are going on with mature adults. It's too hard for me guys, someone help me and only say one sentence to me at a time because I'm too slow and my attention span is too short. Also he doesn't want to agree with me so I'm going to just say what he said is bullshit because I'm too stupid to say anything else so I'll just throw in profanity to show how salty and angry I am so people think I'm right. I bet they'll think I'm the one that's right if I get emotional and start spewing profanities! Yeah that'll work!

The irony in this quote is actually unbelievable. I don't even have to work for it.

    Carry on.
