Well at least I don't feel obligated to pay a ~half mil for a teddy bear backpack that I already have. But since when have we ever had to pay gold to get the grand prize.

One by doing daily, one by paying 100k. So since there are only 20 days => you have to pay a half a million for the teddy bear if you want it.
I don't believe we have ever been forced to pay gold to get an item. Before it was only needed if you forgot to run a day.
You are the one calling the event trash. I just said I have never seen it automatically cost gold before. And the good news was that at least we all had the grand-prize already if you did the previous events.

Yes, if you count how many numbers you need and if you've started the event since day one, you can still pull it off the first two runes without having to pay, if you've done your dailies.
13 numbers for enhancement rune
17 numbers for enchant rune
21 numbers for safeguard rune
Satisfied meh, ambivalent sure. Not saying it is great, not saying it is "trash".
but we can only run it with tickets? I am confusion.
