Bamboozled by Mischief-Maker Case
I've fortunately been able to scrape up enough gold to purchase my own Hellfairy pet, but my friend has probably spent way more than what my rent costs on trying to get a pet(he did, fortunately get a succubus set, though he wasn't really hoping for one). I opened about 100 of them myself, with no luck.
How do you all feel about the Mischief-Maker Case?
Have you been bamboozled by it?
Should it have more sets? Should it be cheaper? Should the good-stuff have a higher rate?

These boxes are exactly why China's law just went into effect forcing publishers to disclose the drop rates for their items. Some are creative with even that, though. Blizzard, for instance, says that players, on average, will get one of X item every thirteen boxes, rather than explicitly saying there's a 7.7% chance to get X, which has 20 different variants between all the characters, meaning there's a .39% chance that a player actually gets that specific item they're going for.
China is also supposed to have included in the law that all RNG items in the cash shop must also have a means of earning them in game by playing or with in game currency. I don't know that the items in these boxes can skirt that, since even though they're airtight, the airtight versions can only be won by someone paying real cash first. I'm also not sure how this will be put into effect for Global or even KR and other Asian regions once it's in place. Here, for instance, Nexon has started disclosing the drop rates for the major prizes on the News page when they're released, following what's been established in KR. Perhaps all regions will follow the requirements and change the system to match China's going forward.
TL;DR, your friend's odds of winning were displayed. I think the rates should be higher and there should be direct purchase, but as long as people are buying up 1,000 boxes, which I know of at least one player definitely doing, or buying a few hundred worth at the least, they really have no incentive to change anything.
Odds of getting a pet for reference: 1.1%, so on average, someone should get a pet every 100 boxes in the long run. To each their own, but I don't think a convenience item is worth $100, and that's if RNG holds to the averages for you.
Odds of getting Succubus Queen: 0.27%, so on average, someone would likely get one every 370 boxes. Again, much more than I'd spend for an outfitter.
These boxes are gambling so spend whatever you plan on 'losing' and if you come out a winner +yay. If you happen to get nothing, don't be upset at the game designers.
I myself bought the 11 pack on the first day and got a hell fairy pet on the 6th box. I bought 2 more packs since, totalling 33 boxes and after the 6th box I got nothing of any value.
Don't walk into the casino with more than you can afford to lose.
how do u feeL?
This was really interesting to read!
It's kind of like farming for an item that drops at .01% and getting nothing for weeks. In a sense, I kind of enjoy the "grind," but my wallet doesn't lol.
I'm not upset about the boxes--I actually quite love "gachas!" But it would be nice if they added some more sets or a slightly higher chance of obtaining one of the nicer items. For this box, there's only 1 set and it can only be worn by female characters
Congratulations on the luck! All of them are really cute. This is my first pet on Vindictus, and I'm very pleased.
Haha that's crazy! I hope you switch between the 2 succubus sets and 3 pets every hour lol
Whenever I get extremely lucky, I fear that all of my luck has run out and expect something terrible to happen next
I got a Makeup Coupon and an Appearance Alteration Coupon that I had been planning to buy anyway, which reduced the cost. Some of the other stuff was also useful like a couple of fusion runes and party graces.
I hate gambling & I dislike gambling boxes & I didn't want to buy them. But the pets are so adorable and I didn't have 100M gold to buy one from the marketplace.
I just wish Tir coins were available so those who hate gambling had a legal way to buy gold & then buy the pets from the marketplace.
Nice! I'm glad you got the pet and some things you wanted! I my Hellfairy Cassie
I got some good things too, like Face Tattoo and dyes
You are allowed to gift NX items for gold. It's obviously at your own risk so you should find someone who will send the gold first as well as someone who can vouch for you, but that $70 you spent on boxes would have gotten you about 280m gold give or take on East. A much better way to go if you're not a fan of gambling on boxes.
Share some of that luck with me, haha!
I'm glad we have players that support this game by purchasing cash items, and I enjoy supporting Vindictus even if it's just a little bit once in a while. If they had as many sets/outfitters as the other servers, I would definitely be more tempted to buy more NX. When you say that you see a drop from the box every 5 minutes, it makes me feel like the European server might be more populated than NA East
I had similar luck however the pet appeared within the first 2 boxes. So I had pretty bad losing streak, here is hoping next gacha is better.
People still don't learn the big rule in this game: don't spend money on anything with gambling involved.
I still remember the MastercardEvie from old europe forums, someone that spent thousands of euros in nexon gambling, to get... nothing. Hilarious.
I just saved up gold and bought whatever I wanted (SQ), but what worries me is that the other stuff people are getting might eventually be so easy to just buy on the market, people will be less incentivized to purchase the boxes.
I know some people justify purchasing the boxes by saying that even if they don't get what they want, they can still sell what they get, but if they keep getting the same stuff every time a new box comes out, they won't buy the boxes anymore.
I've experienced similar gambling-style boxes in other games, and I agree with your last comment. I remember opening a box that produced hats, and got the same hat like 10 times--and it was the UGLIEST hat out of all that were available. I couldn't even sell it for a decent price, so I gave the hats away.
I know there are people that like these types of boxes, and I kind of like the surprise in it as well, but...
For Mischief Maker Case, I feel it was a little difficult to get the cooler stuff.
