Forget photoshop, forget using multiple programs, just use paint. Here is how;

Step 1: Find the gear you wish to obtain a color code from and press PrtScn on your keyboard
Step 2: Open paint and hit paste. (I cropped it so its nicer looking for tut)

Step3: Select your color picker tool

Step4: Click in the center of the color you want with the color picker tool, you can zoom if needed

Step 5: Click on edit colors

Step 6: You will now see the color code of the color you selected using the color picker tool

    Why not just click the square colors that say Color 1: etc.

    Step 4:*
    I guess I could add a picture to make it more clear.

    It would help the guide be more consistent in terms of the step-by-step presentation at the very least...assuming that the confusion came from skipping over Step 4. Unless Abaddan is referring to the "Color 1" and "Color 2" in the paint program.

    Updated to include a picture for step 4:. Makes it more clear and uniform as noted by @Order5.

    Couldn't this constitute as using 3rd party programs?

    The restriction of 3rd party software is in place to prevent things that can damage the game like data mining. This means interfering with or observing data transmitted between the game and the server. Using Paint is completely on your end of things, and it only affects the screenshot you took.
