"Abnormal gameplay detected" on S3 mission

I have repeatedly tried to clear [Autumn Reed Bed] for a story mission but every single time I've beaten the boss (both solo and with a party), a system message pops up telling me that I didn't receive battle rewards and forces me to forfeit/return to town.
Why does this keep happening?

    Are you using Fine Spears? The game almost always claims abnormal gameplay when you use Fine Spears on a boss.
